Local area description
Nestled in the heart of the Dordogne Valley, Saussignac is a picturesque village celebrated for its rolling vineyards, historic architecture, and authentic French countryside lifestyle. The village itself offers a selection of local amenities, including charming cafés, bakeries, artisan shops, and restaurants where you can enjoy regional cuisine and, of course, the renowned Saussignac wines. Weekly markets provide fresh produce, cheeses, and crafts, offering a wonderful opportunity to experience the rhythms of village life.
Beyond the village streets, the surrounding countryside is ideal for outdoor pursuits. Winding walking and cycling routes lead through vineyards, sunflower fields, and forests, while nearby rivers offer kayaking, fishing, and scenic picnic spots. Golf, horse-riding, and tennis are also available within a short drive, making the area perfect for both active lifestyles and leisurely exploration.
Culture and history are ever-present, with nearby bastides, medieval villages, and historic towns offering art galleries, seasonal festivals, and artisan workshops. Wine enthusiasts will find the region particularly rewarding, with opportunities for vineyard tours, tastings, and events across Saussignac and surrounding appellations such as Monbazillac and Bergerac.
Life in this area combines tranquillity with accessibility: the charm of a small village is complemented by easy connections to larger towns, regional attractions, and scenic day-trip destinations throughout the Dordogne Valley. Whether for a permanent home, a holiday retreat, or a base for exploring the region, Saussignac offers a lifestyle defined by beauty, heritage, and the pleasures of the French countryside.

Fantastic champagne welcome. Wonderful, spacious home that we thoroughly enjoyed spending our holiday in. Most of the house is immaculate- the reception rooms, bedrooms and bathrooms. Pool perfect and really safe with high fence and totally toddler-proof gates. The only area needing work is the kitchen, as it is in need of updating. All in all, I wouldn't hesitate in recommending the Chateau to anyone. Thank you
